We kick off the Society’s 2025 season at Elie in the Kingdom of Fife for a truly memorable event, combining camaraderie, tradition, and the timeless charm of hickory golf. Whether you’re a long-time member or a new face to the Society, this day is designed to inspire your love for the game and its rich heritage.

The Day at a Glance

Tee Off for 18 Holes
We’ll meet for tea/coffee in the clubhouse at Elie ahead of our first tee time at 11:10am, ready to enjoy a fantastic round of golf. Elie will be the perfect way to dust off the winter cobwebs and connect with fellow members over our shared passion for the game.

One-Course Lunch
After the round, refuel with a hearty one-course lunch, an opportunity to relax, socialise, and relive the day’s highlights.

Hickory Golf Workshop & Factory Tour
A short 15-minute drive will take us to a Hickory Golf Workshop, where the magic of golf’s past comes to life. Over the course of an hour, we’ll delve into the history and craftsmanship of hickory clubs. Learn how these beautiful pieces of equipment were made, see examples of clubs in various stages of restoration, and hear stories that connect us to the roots of our game.
For those with extra time, we’ll also offer a short guided tour of the St Andrews Golf Co. factory, a unique chance to explore the legacy of golf’s finest craftsmanship.

Ayrshire Classic at Barassie Links

Join us for a fantastic day on the championship links at Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club on the outskirts of Troon. Barassie Links is steeped in history having hosted Final Qualifying for The Open on numerous occasions, and it boasts a legacy of legendary champions. It was here that three-time Open Champion Sir Henry Cotton triumphed in the Daily Mail Professional, showcasing his mastery of the links. More recently, Louise Duncan etched her name into the history books with victory at The Women’s Amateur Championship and in 2024 Korean golfers Hyosong Lee and Seonghyeon An were crowned Girls and Boys champions at The R&A Junior Open..

We’ll meet for tea/coffee and a morning roll in the Barassie clubhouse at 10:30am ahead of our first tee time at 11:30am, ready to enjoy a fantastic round of golf.

Two-Course Meal
After the round, we’ll head to the Walker Cup Players’ Lounge for a two-course meal, an opportunity to relax, socialise, and relive the day’s highlights.

Please Note: We have secured this reservation at a discounted rate for society members who are also members of a Scottish Golf-affiliated golf club. The standard green fee for Castle Stuart Golf Links is £330.00, but members of Scottish Golf-affiliated clubs benefit from a reduced rate of £165.00. If you are not a member of a Scottish Golf-affiliated club, you are still welcome to participate; however, an additional fee of £165.00 will apply, which we can invoice separately.

Centuries of golf has been played over these beautiful old links. Much of the course that’s played today was down to the ‘Grandfather of Golf’ Old Tom Morris. It’s time for The 1457 Society to walk in the footsteps of legends that have played the links over the years.

Join us for our Autumn Meeting at The Nairn Golf Club, Nairn Dunbar and Covesea on September 20th and 21st. We meet up on Friday 20th for lunch and an afternoon round at Nairn Dunbar. The next day we head for 9 holes of pure fun at Covesea Links before lunch and 18 holes at the highly ranked Nairn Golf Club.

Summer Meeting at Dunbar

Join us at Dunbar Golf Club on Scotland’s Golf Coast for our Summer Meeting on Monday August 26th. First laid out in 1856 and redesigned over the years by the likes of Old Tom Morris, Ben Sayers and James Braid, Dunbar East Links has a pedigree second to none. Well defined holes following the natural contours of a narrow strip of land between the old red sandstone deer park wall and the rocky shoreline are the hallmarks of these links.

Our nine holer event is sure to be a lot of fun. Play nine at Comrie GC and then take a short ten minute drive to play another nine holes at St Fillans GC. These little nine holers are so much fun and are a huge part of golf in Scotland.

This event includes tea/coffee and bacon rolls on arrival at Comrie Golf Club and a meal after the round at St Fillans.

Ferry Golf Day at Shiskine

Join us for a ferry trip to the Isle of Arran for two rounds at Shiskine. The course has 12 holes and is a seaside links course with wonderful views. Always in great condition, the greens staff take great pride in the course and work very hard to maintain it to a very high standard. Founded in 1896 with many “blind” holes with names such as the “Crows Nest” and the “Himalayas”.

The day begins with a 9:15am check-in at Ardrossan Ferry Terminal for the crossing as foot passengers to Arran. We’ll be picked up by taxis, crossing to Shiskine on the west side of the island. We’ll have lunch between rounds then head back for the 7:20pm sailing home.

We kick off the 2024 season with a round on Gullane No.2 course on Friday 22nd March.

There are few courses better conditioned this early in the year. The pristine sandy links turf provides a first-class playing surface, while the consistently exceptional quality of the greens ensures an outstanding experience no matter the season.

The oldest inland course in the world

Lanark Golf Club is thought to be the oldest inland golf course in the world which still plays golf on its original site. It’s also the 25th oldest golf club in the world and the 18 holes were designed by Old Tom Morris and James Braid. The course plays like an inland links as its built on top of ancient glacial sands. Expect a firm and fast test of golf.

Musselburgh Links, the Old Course is best played with a half set (five clubs of your choice). Do we really need an intro to this one? Royal Dornoch has been voted the world’s best golf course on numerous occasions and is a pilgrimage to golfers from all over the world.
